The Young Shakespeare Workshop

First Year Class

Seven weeks of rigorous instruction in text, acting, voice, fencing — a crash course in some of the greatest poetry ever written.

In daily three hour classes, grapple first hand with the meanings and complexities of Shakespeare's words, learn to speak them aloud as if they were your own, expand the range and clarity of your voice, learn to fence with rapier and dagger. At the end of seven weeks, a public recital is presented at the Broadway Performance Hall.

No previous theatre experience is necessary, and we charge our students no tuition.

Our low-key audition/interviews are held in Ballard and selected school sites. For your audition, please memorize and prepare a short bit of text from Shakespeare; it can be for any gender or age, as long as the words capture your interest. We may also ask you to read from selected text presented to you at the audition. Please bring a current photo if you have one, it does not need to be professional or glamorous (a snap shot is fine, it just needs to look like you). If you do not have a photo we can take one of you at the audition.

Classes usually take place in downtown Seattle and/or capitol hill.
