BREAKING NEWS: Young Shakespeare Workshop receives award at the White House

We just won the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award, our nation’s highest honor for the field of out-of-school and after-school arts and humanities programs.

The First Lady Michelle Obama presented the award to 16 year old Danisha Harris, a Cleveland High School and 2011 YSW first-year workshop student, and to artistic director, Darren Lay. View the celebration. It would take a very, very, large-scale panoramic lens to capture all of those whose actions and gifts have helped achieve this award and ought to be in this photo. Thank You! Read about some of those who have supported us for so long.

The White House received 471 nominations this year. This award distinguishes Young Shakespeare Workshop as one of twelve exemplary programs in the nation. Congratulations also to our fellow awardee and Seattle-based program 826 Seattle.

An additional 38 finalists were recognized for their outstanding programs including Seattle-based finalist organization Arts Corps. Hurray Seattle!
