The Young Shakespeare Workshop

Darren Lay

Professional actor, long-time teacher, and director of young students. After eleven years on the faculty of Seattle Children's Theatre, Darren joined YSW as a co-director in 1998. He has led the program since 2000. Darren is also a teaching artist for Arts Corps. As a Shakespearean scholar, his work has been published in the London Times Literary Supplement. He has performed for the Seattle Repertory Theatre, Intiman Theatre, Tacoma Actors Guild, and the Empty Space Theatre among others.

Caitlin Steitzer

A 1998 first year YSW alumna, is a graduate of Brandeis University and Hunter College. Under a special mentoring arrangement with Judy Shahn, Caitlin led the first year class voice work in 2002 and 2003 and continuing as Voice instructor in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008.

Brandt Kreitzberg

A 1997 first year YSW alumnus, is a graduate of Cal Arts and first returned to assist with text classes in 2003.

Jorge Chacon

A 2000 first year YSW alumnus, a graduate of the Juilliard School in New York City acted as co-director and developer of TragiComedia and was the summer voice instructor in 2007, 2009 & 2010.  He is currently playing in Loves Labors Lost at the Public Theatre in NYC.

Kate McKnight

A 2005 first year YSW alumna, is currently a second year student at Cornish College of the Arts and led first year voice work in 2011.
